Cheers echoed through New York’s grand squash venue as Anahat Singh delivered a masterclass, defeating England’s Lucy Turmel 11-3, 11-6, 9-11, 13-11 to advance in the PSA’s Tournament of Champions. The Indian teen’s explosive baseline exchanges and killer forehands turned the tide in a match full of momentum swings.
Her reward: a blockbuster second-round clash with sixth seed Satomi Watanabe of Japan. Anahat’s trajectory is meteoric. She kicked off the year with a bang at the British Junior Open, battling to the under-19 final before a tight loss to France’s second seed Lauren Baltayan. Her path there included a 28-minute semifinal rout of Egypt’s Malika El Karaksy.
On the pro circuit in 2025, Anahat hit world No. 28, her second PSA season yielding battles against top talents. She scripted history by beating Joshna Chinappa in five games at the HCL Indian Tour 4 final in Chennai, then added her 13th PSA title at the Indore Indian Open.
India’s men’s hopes dimmed early, however. Abhay Singh, world No. 29 and a pillar in the nation’s first Squash World Cup mixed team victory, fell to Spain’s Iker Pajares 4-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-3, 3-11 after a valiant effort.
Anahat’s surge injects hope, positioning her as the beacon for Indian squash’s ambitions in this high-stakes Platinum showdown.
