Violence erupted in Purnia as a bid to resolve a love triangle dispute ended in bloodshed. Suraj Yadav became the victim of a ruthless shooting spree in the heart of the city, near Maranga’s Fun City Park, where a panchayat meant for harmony devolved into mayhem.
The flashpoint was a video made by a local social media influencer from Nevalal Chowk, featuring schoolgirls at Saraswati Puja. Spotted by a girl’s possessive partner, it prompted an abduction and thrashing of the creator. Simmering grudges led to a showdown three days later, with both camps mobilizing 15-20 members each.
Pandemonium broke loose as negotiations failed spectacularly. Assailants unleashed a barrage of 10-15 bullets. Yadav, enlisted to mediate the panchayat, was gunned down swiftly—his bodyguard helpless in the frenzy.
Police have mobilized, investigating the scene and pursuing the gang of seasoned criminals responsible. Raids are underway, but the audacity of the act in plain sight has residents on edge.
The tragedy drew sharp rebukes from former Purnia MP Santosh Kushwaha, who lambasted the Bihar administration for allowing such impunity. ‘Criminals operate without fear; the state’s authority is in tatters,’ he asserted amid growing concerns over rising crime. Firsthand narratives from eyewitnesses, particularly the bodyguard, detail the terrifying buildup and execution of the attack.
