Gujarat Police achieved a landmark success in curbing child trafficking with the rescue of a newborn and arrest of three traffickers near Ahmedabad airport. This intelligence-driven raid by DCB, supported by ATS inputs, exposed a sprawling interstate racket.
Alerted on January 28, Sub-Inspector J.C. Desai commanded a team of seasoned officers—AHC Kanubhai, APC Velaji, APC Suresh, and Woman PC Kashmiraben—to stake out Kotarpur Pumping Station.
Intercepting the Himmatnagar-bound white Maruti Ertiga (GJ-01-MT-2600), they discovered the infant inside. Suspects Vandana Ben Jigar Bhai Panchal, Roshan @ Sajjan Mahavir Prasad Agrawal, and Sumit Bachhanbhai Yadav were detained; driver Maulik Umia Shankar Dave questioned.
The accused admitted procuring the baby for 3.60 lakhs from Munnu, planning resale to Hyderabad’s Nagaraj. The network’s reach into Telangana and UP raises alarms.
Recovered: Rs 10,050, four phones (~Rs 55,000), and vehicle. Case booked under BNS sections 143(4), 137(2), 61(2)(A), JJ Act 81 & 87. The infant is now with child care authorities for checks.
