The United Nations Security Council heard a firm rebuke from China’s Permanent Representative Fu Cong on January 28, as he tackled the Middle East conundrum in an open forum. Forceful military measures, he asserted, are doomed to fail in solving deep-rooted issues and may instead ignite a broader inferno.
With tensions spiraling and a conflict-prone climate prevailing, Fu underscored the dire need for restraint. Iran, as a sovereign power, deserves to chart its own course on home affairs, free from outside dictates. China extends unwavering support to Iran’s stability, independence, safety, and territorial unity.
Fu called on the US and others to align with global and regional pleas, channeling efforts into genuine peace-building rather than provocative escalations.
China’s envoy affirmed his country’s proactive posture, vowing to work alongside international partners to uphold the Middle East’s self-determination, address authentic concerns, and drive initiatives for sustainable peace in the region.
