Marking a new era in organ transplantation, Ahmedabad’s premier Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) has set a national benchmark with 502 kidney transplants in 2025, outpacing all government hospitals in India. Housed in the Civil Medical Campus, it’s now the go-to hub for renal salvation.
The breakdown showcases versatility: 157 cadaver, 90 swap, 49 pediatric, and a pioneering 43 robotic transplants. Remarkably, 170 patients crossed state borders, affirming IKDRC’s pan-India stature.
Dr. Pranjal Modi, the institute’s Director and Gujarat Transplantation University’s Vice Chancellor, elaborated: ‘This year saw 502 kidneys and 86 livers, largely PMJAY-backed. Gujarat contributed 332 patients, others 170—all equally served.’ Robotics is a cornerstone, with numbers soaring since the state made it free. ‘CM Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the system last February; we’ve done 43, eyeing 150 ahead.’
Equity is core, with 318 procedures under Ayushman Bharat—fully subsidized. Father Rajabhau Gogri rejoiced, ‘No expenses at all; government handled everything.’ Sabarkantha patient Abhishek Kushwaha lauded, ‘PM and CM are champions for all classes.’
IKDRC’s 86 liver transplants further its legacy. Spearheaded by Gujarat’s health initiatives under CM Patel, it blends innovation, accessibility, and excellence, challenging private sectors and elevating national healthcare paradigms.
