Excitement is building in New Delhi following the launch of the Delhi Pro Volleyball League (DPVL), a collaborative effort between the Delhi Volleyball Association and Delhi Olympic Association. This professional league marks a significant step toward mainstreaming volleyball in India.
The official declaration came from volleyball veterans Niti Rawat and Jasoda Guliya. With six franchises at its core, DPVL will unite players from the capital and countrywide, chosen meritocratically through open trials in the near future.
Kuldip Vats, influential as Delhi Olympic Association President and Volleyball Federation Joint Secretary, attended and committed full support. ‘Delhi’s volleyball legacy is unmatched,’ he noted. ‘This league is essential, paving professional paths and elevating the sport regionally and nationally.’
Sudhir Vats, Delhi Volleyball Association head, underscored its talent pipeline role. ‘Through transparency and opportunity, DPVL will nurture Delhi’s stars and benchmark state-level pro leagues,’ he added.
Co-founder Jasoda Guliya delved into future goals: professional structures ensuring longevity for all stakeholders. ‘More than events, we’re building a self-sustaining volleyball world where talents flourish financially and competitively on global platforms.’
Echoing her, Niti Rawat highlighted platform scarcity for local athletes. ‘DPVL offers the exposure and rivalry needed to launch careers,’ she asserted.
The ceremony concluded with tributes to Delhi’s junior squads—the boys’ team national runners-up—emphasizing DPVL’s role in converting youth promise into pro success.
Anticipation mounts for the trials and season kickoff, as DPVL positions itself to redefine volleyball’s professional narrative in India.
