In a bold move against graft, Delhi’s ACB has lodged an FIR targeting unidentified officials and a private firm in the Barapullah Phase-3 flyover debacle, where delays and cost surges have squandered public funds. This 3.5 km lifeline aims to streamline traffic from Sarai Kale Khan but has faltered spectacularly.
The investigation, ordered by the Lt Governor in October 2025 per CM Rekha Gupta’s nudge, follows EFC’s July 8, 2025, critique of suspect arbitration approvals by ineligible officers. Hundreds of crores in potential losses have fueled the urgency.
Project history reveals approval in 2011, Rs 1,260.63 crore allocation in 2014, and L&T’s contract in April 2015 for a 2017 deadline. Bottlenecks in land grabs, tree permits, and departmental slack kept it in limbo.
Over Rs 1,238.68 crore spent, costs now at Rs 1,330 crore, with June 2026 as the latest target. PWD must furnish all records to ACB, and L&T vows support.
Charged under key anti-corruption sections, the case promises to unearth lapses. For a city choked by traffic, resolution here could herald stricter oversight, ensuring mega projects deliver without the baggage of corruption.
