Tensions flare in Punjab’s political arena with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) dropping a bombshell accusation against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP): misappropriation of government funds for a Moga rally masquerading as a drug eradication push. SAD’s Monday salvo targets the event’s true motive—kickstarting AAP’s 2027 election bid.
Senior SAD voice Daljit Singh Cheema laid bare the details. State coffers allegedly footed the bill for crowd ferrying and full production, even as Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi AAP brass took center stage, despite zero administrative role in Punjab.
Labeling it ‘rank deception,’ Cheema detailed the political core: fiery speeches slamming foes, miles away from anti-drug substance. “This isn’t governance; it’s campaigning on the sly,” he charged.
His remedy? Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and ECI must reclaim every rupee, deeming the rally non-governmental and illegal. Cheema reserved special ire for the bullying of bureaucrats—the Chief Secretary and DGP—to attend, calling it a gateway to systemic rot.
“Bureaucrats as rally props today; election riggers tomorrow,” he prophesied. “Democracy dies in darkness like this.” SAD’s broadside amplifies concerns over AAP’s stewardship, spotlighting patterns of overreach amid public disillusionment.
The timing couldn’t be sharper, with assembly polls looming. AAP’s silence fuels speculation, as SAD rallies allies to amplify the narrative. Outcomes from appealed probes could expose vulnerabilities or vindicate the rulers, altering Punjab’s power calculus significantly.
