Big news for Kerala cricket fans: the High Court in Kerala has prolonged the protection order for the Badiyadka cricket ground in Kasaragod, handing Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) a crucial win. Recognizing its role in public service, the court called for serious governmental attention.
Demolition halt due to alleged trespass remains active pending final adjudication. The revenue and local self-government principal secretaries are tasked with wrapping up within 120 days.
The petition arose from KCA’s opposition to the collector’s 1.09-acre encroachment claim. Lacking scientific validation, the report was deemed insufficient by the court.
KCA can now formally push for a scientific survey; if approved, it must be done right, with the state examining all outputs beforehand.
Defending against 40-cent canal land grab claims, KCA noted the site was occupied pre-purchase without visible watercourse. Collector records confirmed diversions posed no flow threats.
Secretary Vinod S. Kumar rejoiced, ‘A relief for KCA. Sure things will clear up. Field functional with pitches intact.’
Beyond immediate relief, this order spotlights the need for evidence-based land probes, potentially influencing future sports venue safeguards in Kerala and promoting equitable resolutions.
