Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan gears up to inaugurate Phase 1 of the Kalpetta Rehabilitation Township on February 25, a beacon of hope for Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide victims. This move signals Kerala’s steadfast commitment to its people’s welfare.
In an emotional X update, Vijayan declared it a landmark of resilience: ‘We’re not just cutting a ribbon; we’re fulfilling vows and resettling lives side by side.’
The devastating event struck on July 30, 2024, in Wayanad district where furious rains provoked landslides in Mundakkai, Chooralmala, and Punchirimatam. Scores perished, and villages were obliterated, thrusting survivors into uncertainty.
Bypassing waits for full external help, Kerala harnessed local vigor to accelerate rebuilding. Vijayan recounted: ‘Disaster robbed families of all, but our unity brought back optimism.’
Immediate benefits: 178 families secure homes and land deeds. Comprehensive aid for the other 327, including residences and titles, precedes the next rainy season, backed by advanced construction progress.
The road was fraught with trials, queries, and impediments, yet Keralites’ solidarity with the administration drove relentless advancement. This township is no ordinary development—it’s a revival of honor, a showcase of joint willpower, and proof of Kerala’s robust character.
The impending launch not only mends broken communities but also elevates Kerala’s global image in humanitarian response. It promises long-term stability for survivors and lessons in resilience for the world.
