Shockwaves reverberated through Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district following the consecutive suicides of a young husband and wife, only five months into their love marriage. In Bindki’s Barati Nagar, the couple rented a room on the top floor of a towering residential block, where fate dealt its cruel hand late Thursday night.
Amarjeet Kushwaha, aged 28 and son of Sitaram, initiated the tragedy around 1 AM by hanging himself in a rooftop cubicle resembling a bathroom, utilizing his muffler as the instrument of death. Wife Rekha Sonkar, 25, stumbled upon the scene and, in distress, informed the Bindki Kotwali alongside neighbors. Police intervention involved forcing the door, verifying the suicide, and gearing up for formalities.
Rekha’s sudden absence sparked alarm. Searches pinpointed her on the terrace railing, deceased from a self-made noose of laundry rope. Forensic experts descended on the site, ensuring meticulous evidence collection. Both remains underwent panchnama before postmortem dispatch.
The pair, village sweethearts, had cohabited there for a month post-elopement. Detectives are probing deeply, conversing with families and locals to identify triggers—be it in-law tensions, economic hardship, or psychological strain.
This heartrending episode spotlights the perils lurking beneath whirlwind romances in traditional settings. With investigations underway, the hope is for revelations that safeguard others from similar despair.
