New Delhi hosted UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for the India AI Impact Summit 2026, marked by his Friday meeting with President Droupadi Murmu. This dialogue reinforced India’s pivotal role in AI and global multilateral efforts.
Extolling India’s organizational prowess and the historic UN partnership, Guterres celebrated the summit’s success in promoting AI for collective progress.
Murmu endorsed Guterres’ visionary global AI scientific panel for humanity’s advancement. Per the President’s Secretariat, she highlighted multilateralism’s trials amid worldwide instability and trust deficits.
Pushing for Security Council evolution to align with modern realities, Murmu advocated enhanced Global South participation in governance. Reforms, she stated, are indispensable for the UN’s enduring credibility and efficacy.
Viewing ‘UN-80’ as a reform catalyst, she called for embedding Global South priorities in any overhaul. Murmu wished Guterres well for his tenure’s balance and confirmed India’s steadfast multilateral support.
Preceding this, Guterres met Prime Minister Modi to explore inclusive AI frameworks, deliberating the UN’s strategic involvement in equitable tech proliferation.
