Amidst a national push for agricultural advancement, Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath pressed for more central assistance in a high-level video review on Tuesday, led by Union counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The spotlight fell on ambitious plans to cultivate hybrid paddy over 30,000 hectares under RKVY-DPR by 2026-27, leveraging the crop’s dominance on 50% of the state’s arable land for unbreakable food security.
Praising Tripura’s performance among 18 states, Chouhan noted strong financial management. Nath showcased utilization stats—79% PM-RKVY funds spent, 61% in production and natural farming schemes—placing the state in the top five nationally. He demanded full current-year spending plus extras to elevate farmer programs.
Mechanization got a Rs 20 crore SMAM boost request, alongside help for Farm IDs to 1.25 lakh tribal ROFR holders. Targeting smallholder realities (96% of farmers), Nath sought cost uplifts in core schemes for paddy enhancement. Assurances from Chouhan on quick approvals came with input from Secretary Apurva Roy and Director Phanibhushan Jamatia.
This initiative marks a milestone in Tripura’s agribusiness evolution, fusing hybrid technology with mechanized efficiency to harvest greater yields and secure futures.
