Tragedy struck Kalyani JNM Medical College in West Bengal’s Nadia when a final-year student’s decomposed body was unearthed from his hostel room on Thursday. Identified as Pulak Halder of Mograhhat, South 24 Parganas, the discovery has ignited a full-scale police investigation.
Halder was last observed on February 20 at the hostel eatery. He neither exited the campus nor interacted with anyone thereafter. Thursday’s overpowering stench from his room necessitated breaking it open, unveiling the horrific find.
Swift police response from Kalyani station ensured the body was sent for post-mortem. Kin have been contacted amid uncertainty over the death’s nature—murder, suicide, or medical emergency. Every lead is being pursued rigorously.
Speculation abounds regarding alleged ragging tied to RG Kar case protests and academic woes, pending official corroboration. Halder resided solo, as confirmed by fellow boarders. AMS Somjyoti Banerjee detailed the incident’s progression from suspicion to shocking revelation.
Preemptive heavy policing secures the hospital grounds. The untimely demise raises red flags on hostel oversight and psychological support for medicos under immense pressure, prompting calls for immediate interventions.
