Thiruvananthapuram’s biotech landscape evolved significantly as Minister Jitendra Singh spearheaded multiple launches at BRIC-RGCB Akkulam. The highlight was the foundation for a world-class cGMP facility, symbolizing India’s commitment to a bio-driven economic paradigm under the BioE3 policy.
In his address, Singh articulated how BioE3 places biotechnology at the heart of sustainable development, integrating economy, environment, and employment. As one of few countries with such a dedicated framework, India is poised to lead in scientific-economic synergy, green innovation, and circular economies.
The minister stressed expanding nuclear medicine frontiers through recent reforms, advocating private-public R&D alliances via the Nuclear Medical Mission. These efforts promise holistic research ecosystems yielding practical medical advancements.
Further milestones included dedicating the recombinant cells and sensors national facility and inaugurating Science Day. Institutional triumphs in molecular biology, genomics, and oncology have been supercharged by ten years of science prioritization, luring experts in bioinformatics and beyond.
Dr. Rajesh Gokhale, DBT head and BRIC DG, positioned biotech as a national transformer, outlining BioE3’s 2024 themes including bio-manufacturing and crediting institute data for HPV vaccination success.
Dr. T.R. Santhosh Kumar emphasized the facility’s 600-700 cancer-targeting cell lines, cementing its global stature. The cGMP facility ahead will unlock economical cell/gene therapy paradigms, broadening next-generation treatment reach and amplifying India’s biotech footprint on the world stage.
