Early summer has unleashed a blaze of Palash flowers across Narmada district’s woodlands in Gujarat, locally called Khakhra. These radiant blooms are luring tourists and handing local women a golden ticket to entrepreneurship amid the heatwave.
As leaves drop and landscapes dry, Palash’s orange fireworks dominate, especially near the Statue of Unity. The visual feast extends the area’s appeal, making it a prime escape for nature lovers.
Enterprising women in surrounding villages have capitalized brilliantly. Ekta Nagar’s Ekta Nursery hosts their stalls, brimming with Palash soap, herbal goods, and crafts. Monthly hauls of 40,000-50,000 rupees reflect booming summer sales.
From Kevadia, Neeru Tadvi leads the Radhe Krishna Mission Mangalam Group, born in 2022 from 10 determined souls. ‘Government aid and our 70,000-rupee loan turned drudgery into opportunity,’ she shared. No longer chasing distant jobs, they thrive locally.
Specialized training unlocked diverse soaps—lemon zest, aloe soothing, rose elegance—all from nearby sources. Tourists at the Statue of Unity drive purchases, yielding 10,000-15,000 rupees per member monthly, balancing homes and hopes.
Sumitra Tadvi of Kothi village sums it up: ‘From labor pains to Palash gains.’ This floral frenzy elevates Narmada’s ecology and economy, showcasing sustainable harmony between nature’s gifts and human ambition.
