As Holi nears, Muzaffarpur’s bazaars pulse with energy. Stalls brim with herbal colors, synthetic gulal, and innovative squirting devices. Yet, the real talk is around ‘Modi Masks,’ PM Narendra Modi’s likenesses that flew off shelves 10 days ago.
Chhata Market vendors, the epicenter of Holi wholesale, face empty stocks despite urgent Delhi calls. Suppliers admit they’re tapped out amid a demand surge.
‘We’ve pivoted to high-demand items like tank pichkaris, high-pressure guns, and electric rechargeables,’ said trader Amit Kumar. ‘Youth are hooked on the power and design. Masks came in multiples, but Modi’s edition created frenzy.’
Irshad Ahmad revealed unique additions like pump toys, but Modi Masks depleted earliest. Muntu confirmed a four-day-old shipment sold out on arrival.
Electric innovations lead trends, with gulal aplenty. This phenomenon illustrates Holi’s evolution – merging tradition, technology, and a dash of political fandom in Bihar’s heartland.
