Breaking new ground, the US state of Montana has dedicated its first Mahatma Gandhi statue at the University of Montana’s esteemed Mike Mansfield Center. This gesture of goodwill was confirmed by the Indian Consulate in Seattle, underscoring expanding bilateral warmth.
The formal inauguration saw Montana Governor Greg Gianforte share honors with Seattle’s Indian Consul General. Faculty, students, and Montana World Affairs Council affiliates filled the venue, reflecting on Gandhi’s profound influence.
Governor Gianforte lauded the Indian government’s donation, stressing the urgent need for Gandhi’s non-violence tenets in our era of strife. He celebrated the evolving friendship linking India and Montana.
The center, operational since 1983, prioritizes cultivating principled leaders committed to societal good and responsibility.
Twilight brought Montana’s debut Holi festivities, which Executive Director Dina Mansoor portrayed as harbingers of spring and togetherness. Festivities featured eco-friendly pigments, delectable Gujiyas, and a Bollywood screening of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
A packed ‘Brand India’ seminar drew 400 students, enlightening them on artisanal Indian coffees and the strategic One District One Product initiative.
