Pune’s Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium transforms into a battleground for corporate hockey glory with the 41st PSPB Inter-Unit Tournament, launching Thursday under innovative floodlights. Curated by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board and led by BPCL’s Deepak Jain, Chief General Manager (Sports), the event pits four PSU titans—BPCL, IOCL, ONGC, and EIL—in a comprehensive round-robin format.
Premiering floodlit play, following the trail blazed by the 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship, matches start at 7:30 PM Thursday and peak with the March 8 final. Reigning champs BPCL, guided by Olympian captain Devinder Walmiki last year, seek back-to-back triumphs against a hungry IOCL.
Deepak Jain shared his vision: ‘Decades on, PSPB hockey remains a beacon of institutional supremacy, uniting top national talent. It’s a profound privilege for BPCL to host in Pune, honoring Olympians who amplify the event and their companies while toasting India’s national sport.’
The tournament reinforces BPCL’s sports legacy, delivering elite hockey to Pune and PCMC audiences. Iconic figures Tushar Khandkar, Devinder Walmiki, and Birendra Lakra headline the roster, guaranteeing world-class hockey.
From opening whistles to final sirens, expect strategic depth, athletic prowess, and PSU camaraderie. This floodlit fiesta not only captivates fans but also propels hockey’s growth, etching another vibrant page in PSPB’s illustrious chronicle.
