Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur witnessed a heart-wrenching road mishap Friday, where brake failure caused a passenger bus to overturn, resulting in five fatalities and more than 20 injuries. The bus from Jharkhand’s Kurdeg to Kunkuri met doom on a Godamba village slope.
Precisely at 9:45 AM, under Kardega jurisdiction, the ill-fated CG 14 G 0263 veered wildly after brakes malfunctioned. A passenger’s call to stop went unheeded as the bus careened and capsized by Surendra Sai’s building site, with two dozen-plus riders inside.
Immediate response from villagers involved raising alarms, deploying diggers for extraction, and ambulance coordination. Medical outflow was swift.
Confirmed by Block MO Kuujur, the dead comprise couple Mahesh and Bimla Ram from Duldula’s Makribandha, Simdega’s Sampati Devi, and Dhodi residents Digeshwar and baby Ghanshyam. Collector Rohit Vyas affirmed the sequence.
Advanced treatment beckons the critically wounded at Ambikapur Medical College; 13 stabilize locally. Compassion flowed as Koushalya Devi Sai, wife of CM Vishnu Dev Sai, toured the ward, empathizing and ordering utmost care.
This incident reignites debates on stringent vehicle inspections and infrastructure upgrades for safety in accident-prone zones.
