Gujarat lost a seasoned BJP lawmaker as Umreth MLA Govind Parmar died at 82 following a battle with illness. Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced his condolences on X, highlighting Parmar’s social service zeal.
Modi’s post stated: ‘Deeply grieved by Gujarat legislator Govind Parmar’s passing. Always proactive and committed to societal good. My prayers for the soul’s eternal peace and solidarity with the family in their hour of loss.’
The veteran politician expired Friday in an Anand district hospital where he was undergoing prolonged treatment.
Born in 1943 to an ordinary family, Parmar studied up to class seven and channeled his energies into public life, forging deep bonds with Charotar’s agrarian communities.
His political ascent peaked with a 2017 victory over Congress’s Kapilaben Chavda in Umreth, followed by a 2022 re-election triumph against NCP’s Jayant Patel.
Gujarat BJP head Jagdish Vishwakarma, also an MLA, shared his anguish. ‘Heartbroken by the tragic loss of Govindbhai Parmar, Umreth’s cherished voice. I beseech the Almighty for his soul’s tranquility and his family’s endurance,’ he remarked.
Parmar embodied the essence of ground-level leadership, prioritizing rural development and social harmony. His demise resonates across Gujarat’s political circles, prompting a collective pause to celebrate a life of quiet dedication. Legacy-building through service remains his enduring gift to the region.
