Crime’s shadow lengthened over Gopalganj, Bihar, when two knife-wielding thugs ambushed and gravely wounded a civil lawyer on March 7. Advocate Madhusudan Mishra, fondly called Kanchan Mishra, was midway to his daughter’s house with milk from court in Hathua’s Nayagaon Tulsiya, close to Shivji Upadhyay’s home.
The assailants’ ferocious knife assault left him profusely bleeding and fighting for life. Frantic neighbors transported him urgently to Sadar Hospital, where physicians, alarmed by his deteriorating health, referred him to a superior trauma center.
Responding rapidly, police cordoned the area and initiated a multi-pronged investigation. Hathua SDPO Anand Mohan Gupta quashed pistol-related misinformation: ‘Confirmed knife-only attack, rooted in a legal dispute the lawyer was involved in.’ Mishra echoed this, implicating case foes.
Detectives are canvassing the vicinity, collecting evidence, and launching manhunts. This audacious hit on a legal stalwart amplifies concerns over targeted violence in Bihar’s hinterlands, fueling advocacy for fortified security grids around judicial hubs.
The bar council’s uproar grows, pressuring officials for immediate reforms. While Mishra battles injuries, Gopalganj braces for updates, hoping police momentum leads to arrests and a safer tomorrow for justice warriors.
