Kolkata witnessed a surge of energy on Sunday as Union Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya championed women’s role in nation-building at the Fit India Pink Cyclothon for International Women’s Day. He articulated that fortifying women equates to fortifying the entire societal structure.
Active involvement of women in fitness and sports is non-negotiable for India’s ascent, Mandaviya asserted during the event. The Sunday on Cycle initiative, thriving across the country, amplified themes of health, camaraderie, and green living through cycling.
Mandaviya described cycling as a powerhouse for sustained health and pristine surroundings, with events like these instilling fitness ethos and communal duty in citizens.
He drove home the point: robust women propel family units and societies to new heights, cementing their contributions to the nation’s core.
Notable participants included decorated Olympian Bombayla Devi Laishram, record-breaking mountaineer Piyali Basak, Scouts chief Avinash Kumar Gupta, soccer star Adrijja Sarkhel, and Olympian Sushmita Singha Roy.
Initiated by the minister in late 2024, Fit India Sunday on Cycle extends the 2019 Fit India drive by PM Modi. Weekly cycles promote habitual wellness, with this one honoring women’s empowerment.
The cyclothon’s success underscores a growing movement: when women ride ahead, India pedals to glory.
