NIA has tightened its grip against 12 accused in the 2019 Naxal encounter in Tiriya, Chhattisgarh. Chargesheet has been filed against 12 accused for their role in the Naxalite encounter. The spokesperson of the central agency gave this information on Saturday. Six members of the Communist Party of India-Maoist and one civilian were killed in the Tiriya encounter.

The NIA official said that charges have been filed against the accused under the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Investigation has revealed that a group of Maoists conspired to attack the security forces under the leadership of their senior leader which included Sanju, Laxman Nag, Dashari Kawasi, Dubasi Shankar, Jalimuri Srinu Babu, Vijayalakshmi and Ramesh Kunjami.

The spokesperson said that a joint team of District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, State Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was conducting a search operation near Tiriya village of Jagdalpur when the attackers targeted them. The attackers used sophisticated weapons during the attack. Official suspects identified in the case include B C Padma, Dubasi Devender, Dongari Devender, Duddu Prabhakar and Kandula Sirisha.

The accused, who have close links with the top leadership of CPI (Maoist), were actively engaged in furthering the illegal and violent agenda of the banned organisation. They helped obtain funds from the CPI (Maoist) to support their campaigns, while also working through various front organizations to propagate the Maoist ideology.

The officer said the case was initially registered on June 28, 2019, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and UAPA. The NIA took over the case on March 18, 2021.
