At least 17 workers are believed to be trapped following the collapse of a building under construction in Babusapalya, Bengaluru, on Tuesday, officials have confirmed.

  • Mehbooba Mufti Warns Govt Against Pressuring Non-Local Laborers To Leave Kashmir |

PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that the J-K administration is pressuring non-local labourers to leave the region following the recent terrorist attack in Sonamarg, which claimed seven lives. Mufti also called for a more measured response, warning that hasty decisions could damage Kashmir’s social and economic stability and tarnish the region’s image on a national level.

In her social media post, Mufti stressed that expelling non-locals could send a dangerous signal to the rest of the country, undermining the recent peaceful elections held in the Union Territory. She pointed out the risk of this move provoking retaliatory sentiments in other states where Kashmiri workers and students reside, potentially putting their safety at risk.

“Kashmiris living outside the valley could face similar hostility if we force these workers to leave in such a manner. The situation needs to be handled with care,” Mufti said.

She also emphasised the contributions of non-local labourers to the region’s economy, especially in sectors like construction, agriculture, and service industries, warning that their sudden departure could lead to severe labour shortages and halt critical projects.

The former chief minister called on current political leaders, including Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure that labourers are given enough time to return home safely rather than being abruptly forced out.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police quickly responded to Mehbooba Mufti, quoting IGP Kashmir and said, “Social media reports claiming that the local administration has asked non-local workers to leave the valley are false. The Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed to ensuring security and fostering a safe environment for all individuals to pursue their livelihoods without fear or intimidation. The general public is advised not to pay heed to such false information on social media platforms.”

Although security has been beefed up across the Kashmir Valley after the Gagangeer attack, extra deployments can be seen on the roads in Kashmir.

  • ‘Will Work With India…’: China Confirms LAC Patrolling Agreement With New Delhi | world news

After India, now China has also confirmed to have reached a border dispute settlement agreement with India. China Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian told a media briefing that both sides have reached a resolution and it will continue to work with New Delhi on the issue. “We have resolved the relevant matter, will work with the Indian side to implement the solution. We are in close communication through diplomatic and military channels,” said Jian.

On October 21, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that India has reached an agreement with China regarding patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The announcement came ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kazan, Russia, for the 16th BRICS summit that begins today and is scheduled to run till October 24.

“This agreement is the outcome of extensive discussions over the past several weeks with Chinese interlocutors at both diplomatic and military levels,” said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. He noted that military commanders have been involved in negotiations aimed at addressing the tensions that have persisted since 2020.

Misri explained that the agreement signifies a path toward disengagement and a potential resolution of the issues that arose during the significant confrontations in 2020. “Now, as a result of the discussions over the last several weeks, an agreement has been reached on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas. This is leading to disengagement and eventually a resolution of the issues that arose in these areas in 2020,” he said.

The agreement marks a crucial step in stabilizing relations between India and China as both nations work to manage their border disputes and avoid further military confrontations. In early May 2020, troops from China’s People’s Liberation Army and the Indian Army clashed at locations along the LAC, the disputed boundary between China and India. The situation escalated on June 15-16, 2020, resulting in casualties on both sides. (With agency inputs)

  • Computer operators on strike for 35 days: Police chased away the operators when they reached Minister Bungalow, President said – the movement will continue till the demands are met.

Satya Rajput, Raipur. Chhattisgarh Paddy Procurement Computer Operators Association is on strike for 35 days for two-point demands. Since no initiative has been taken till now, the operators reached the bungalow of Minister OP Choudhary today, where the demands of the complainants were not heard, but the police chased away the operators from near the bungalow, threatening to send them to jail.

President of Paddy Purchase Computer Operators Association, Rishikant Mohare said, the protest site has been locked. Where should we protest to convey our voice to the government? Today the minister had reached OP Choudhary’s bungalow, but the police issued a threatening letter, threatened to send him to jail and chased him away from there. Where should we present our demands now? With whom to do it?

Operator union president Mohre said, the indefinite strike is being crushed. From September 18, 2024, Chhattisgarh Support Price Paddy Purchase Computer Operators Association is agitating for its two-point demands. Today is the 35th day of the movement. No matter what the government or police does, we will not end our strike. We will keep our demands.

Employees working without department for 17 years

He said, employees and officers may be of different categories, but their department is fixed, but the surprising thing is that the computer operators who purchase paddy have been working for the last 17 years but their department is not fixed. 6-7 different departments work with them.

    These are two-point demands

Since 2007, the year of computerization of support price paddy procurement, the department of data entry operators working for the last 17 years should be decided and they should be regularized. Secondly, the benefit of 27 percent salary increase issued in the financial instructions of the government should be given. Data entry operators are carrying out indefinite agitation regarding these two issues.

Registration for paddy purchase is being disrupted

The completion of registration for paddy purchase in the society is hampered due to the strike of computer operators. The society has gone completely offline, due to which farmers have to wander for registration. Operators of all the societies are on strike. In such a situation, a big question is how will the paddy be purchased?

  • Naked-Chat Blackmail: 55 Men, 4 Women Fell Prey To Video Chat Scam, Made To Pay Rs 2 Cr As Sextortion; Caution For Indians |

New Delhi: Around 59 people in Hong Kong, four of whom were women, were deceived into paying over HK$1.9 million (about Rs 2 crore) in just one week after they were forced to go nude during video conversations.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) said that the police released the numbers on its Facebook page on Friday, cautioning locals to exercise caution when meeting persons online.

To trick women on social media, the scammers have also been masquerading as “highly educated, high-income and physically attractive” men. The Hong Kong police claimed that the perpetrators “use sweet talk to learn about the victims’ personal lives and interests to manipulate them.” It was further said, “In the past week, police received 59 cases of naked-chat blackmail, with scammers extorting more than HK$1.9 million. Four cases involved female victims.”

Additionally, the police disclosed that a 5th of the 1,102 victims of “naked-chat blackmail” were students. The scammers coerced the victims into paying over HK$31 million(about Rs 34 crore). According to SCMP, several of the students were around 11 years old.

Cases of naked-chat blackmail or sextortion in India
Several instances of sextortion or naked chat blackmail have also been documented in India. People were cautioned by the Kerala police earlier this year about honey traps and not to answer video calls from strangers or unknown numbers. In 2022, a Bengaluru man had to pay Rs 5 lakh man to fraudsters after he was tricked into becoming nude on a video chat. In 2023, two men were detained in Rajasthan for tricking a person from Vadodara into making a naked WhatsApp chat and demanding Rs 3.33 lakh from him.

    What is Sextortion?
Sextortion is a type of cyber abuse in which a cybercriminal uses social media platforms, instant messaging apps, SMS, online dating apps, porn sites, and other channels to entice victims into private video/audio chats where they are forced to pose nude or provide explicit pictures. These materials are eventually used by the fraudsters to blackmail the victims. Both male and female victims may fall prey to these kinds of frauds.

Tips to protect against online sextortion
    * Never accept video calls or open attachments from strangers.
    * Keeping your personal photos, videos, and posts private is advisable.
    * It is always advisable to decline friendship requests from strangers on social media.
    * Do not click on intimate, nude, or semi-nude pictures and videos.
    * Enable privacy and security settings on social media accounts.
    * File a sextortion complaint with the cybercrime cell.
