The Maruti Suzuki Baleno underwent crash testing to assess the safety of its 2-airbag and 6-airbag configurations, focusing on adult and child occupant protection. The Baleno’s popularity has been coupled with safety concerns, particularly regarding the base model with only two airbags. The adult occupant safety assessment for the 2-airbag version resulted in a score of 24.04/32. The test revealed marginal protection for the driver’s chest and thighs but adequate leg protection. The front passenger received adequate overall protection and good head protection, with good head and neck protection provided by airbags. In the side impact test, head and neck protection was rated as adequate, and chest protection was marginal. The child occupant safety score was 16.81 out of 24. The 6-airbag version scored 26.52/32 for adult safety (four stars) and 34.81/49 for child safety (three stars). The 6-airbag model has frontal, side head curtain, side chest, and side pelvis airbags.
