Buying a car in Pakistan presents a major financial challenge compared to the situation in India. Cars available to the average middle-class Indian family are priced many times higher in Pakistan. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which starts at roughly ₹4.98 lakh in India, is priced at about ₹32.14 lakh in Pakistan. The Suzuki Alto, a popular hatchback in India with a starting price of only ₹3.50 lakh, costs more than ₹23.31 lakh in Pakistan. The disparity is so significant that one could acquire a mid-size SUV in India for that sum. The prices of cars in Pakistan are incredibly high, making car ownership a considerable financial burden. This situation is further compounded by factors such as limited local production and dependence on imports. High taxes, inflation, and the devaluation of the Pakistani Rupee against the dollar also contribute significantly to the elevated car prices.
