The Suzuki e-Vitara, a made-in-India all-electric compact SUV, has been evaluated in Euro NCAP’s new crash safety tests, securing a 4-star rating. While the vehicle demonstrates a strong safety profile, the assessments revealed some areas for improvement. During the frontal offset test, the passenger compartment of the e-Vitara maintained its structural integrity, with good ratings for the protection of front occupants’ knees and thighs. The side impact test also indicated good safety for all body regions.
In contrast, the full-width frontal test resulted in a medium rating for the safety of rear passengers’ heads and chests due to the forward movement experienced during impact. The rear impact test yielded more favorable outcomes. Whiplash safety was rated as good for both front and rear seats. Furthermore, the SUV is equipped with advanced safety features, including an e-Call system and multi-collision braking.
Maruti Suzuki India has initiated the export of the e-Vitara, marking a significant milestone in its global electric vehicle strategy. The initial shipment, comprising over 2,900 vehicles, departed from Gujarat’s Pipavav port in August, destined for 12 European countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden.
The e-Vitara is manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, which will serve as the global production hub. The vehicle has previously been presented at the India Mobility Global Expo in Milan and New Delhi. The e-Vitara is built upon Suzuki’s new Heartect-e electric platform.
Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce the e-Vitara in India, with aspirations to export it to more than 100 countries in the coming years. The precise features and specifications for the Indian market are yet to be disclosed. Nonetheless, the company has confirmed that the car will be offered in Delta, Zeta, and Alpha variants and is expected to provide a range of about 500 km on a single charge.
