The Indian automotive market is currently experiencing a wave of changes. The reason behind this is the GST 2.0 reforms, which have not only changed the tax structure but also directly affected car prices. Maruti Suzuki’s entry-level car, the S-Presso, has seen the biggest benefit. Previously, the Alto K10 held the title of the most affordable car, but this has changed. S-Presso emerges as the most economical option. After the implementation of GST 2.0, Maruti has reduced the prices of its small cars. The S-Presso saw the most significant price cut, with its starting price now at just 3.50 lakh rupees. The Alto K10 now starts at 3.70 lakh rupees. The price reduction is primarily due to differences in safety features. The government has implemented a new standard requiring six airbags in new vehicles. Maruti has launched the Alto K10 and Celerio with this update, but the S-Presso still features only two airbags. This is why its price has been kept lower. It remains an attractive option for buyers looking for the most affordable choice. Small petrol cars now benefit from a tax cut of up to 10 percent. The tax rate has decreased from 28 percent to 18 percent, with the cess also removed. Consequently, on-road prices have decreased, making car ownership in India more accessible. The most affordable car in India is no longer just a regular hatchback; it has an SUV-style design. The S-Presso’s elevated stance, boxy design, and crossover styling distinguish it. This is appealing to those transitioning from two-wheelers to cars.
