The Kia Syros EV, a forthcoming electric vehicle, has been spotted undergoing testing in India. This sighting occurred at a charging station in Kochi, where the vehicle was heavily camouflaged to obscure its design. Despite the camouflage, key design features such as the window line, roof rails, pillars, shark fin antenna, and body-colored ORVMs were visible, all appearing similar to the existing ICE model. Furthermore, there were no apparent changes to the front and rear lighting.
Expected design changes for the EV variant include potential modifications to the grille and the placement of the charging port on the front. EV badging and green brake calipers, as seen on previous test models, could also be incorporated on the exterior. It is anticipated that the dimensions of the compact electric SUV will remain unchanged.
Inside, the cabin may see minor adjustments, potentially including new trims and upholstery. The Syros EV is also likely to feature an instrument cluster with EV-specific software. The feature set is expected to be comparable to the ICE-powered version, ensuring the EV is well-equipped and spacious within its category.
Specific technical details about the Syros EV are still unavailable. However, it’s rumored to share its powertrain with the Hyundai Inster EV, which is expected to launch in India in 2026. Globally, the Inster EV offers two NMC battery pack options: a 42kWh and a 49kWh, providing ranges of approximately 300 km and 355 km, respectively.
When it launches, the Kia Syros EV will compete with models such as the MG ZS EV and Tata Punch EV. The pricing is expected to make it one of the most affordable electric cars in India, with the base model starting around ₹14 lakh and the top-end variant potentially reaching ₹20 lakh. Currently, the Kia Carens Clavis EV stands as Kia’s most affordable electric SUV in India, with prices ranging from ₹17.99 lakh to ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
