A SpiceJet flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru was the scene of an unexpected event when a passenger found themselves locked inside the airplane’s lavatory for the duration of the flight. The airline has issued an apology and offered a refund to the passenger, but the incident has captured public attention.
The passenger was eventually rescued after the plane landed in Bengaluru, with ground staff and engineers working to unlock the door. The event occurred on a Monday night flight. The flight was delayed by two hours, taking off from Mumbai at 2:10 AM, instead of its scheduled departure time of 10:55 PM.
The incident commenced when a passenger seated in seat 14D of the SpiceJet flight entered the restroom soon after takeoff. The door lock malfunctioned, trapping the passenger. The passenger and crew attempted to open the door to no avail.
The crew took an initiative to provide comfort to the passenger, passing a handwritten note through the gap under the door. The note asked the passenger to remain calm and stay seated until the flight landed. The handwritten note was widely shared on social media and went viral. The flight arrived in Bengaluru around 3:45 AM, where engineers opened the door.
The airline has acknowledged the event and apologized for the passenger’s experience.
