Tesla is accelerating its expansion in the Indian electric vehicle market with plans to launch a second retail centre. The new Tesla Experience Centre is scheduled to open on August 11 at the WorldMark 3 campus in Aerocity, Delhi, catering to customers in the National Capital Region. This move is a strategic step in India’s growing EV market.
This follows the debut of Tesla’s first showroom, which opened on July 15 at the Maker Maxity Mall in Mumbai. The launch in Mumbai saw the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who expressed support for Tesla’s arrival and invited the company to establish research and development, as well as manufacturing units in the state.
The Aerocity centre is nearing completion, with estimated monthly rent of around Rs 25 lakh. The upcoming outlet has been previewed on social media, highlighting the brand’s premium positioning. Currently, Tesla offers only one model in India: the Model Y, which starts at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Model Y is available in these configurations:
* Standard rear-wheel drive with a 60 kWh battery, offering a 500 km WLTP-certified range.
* Long-range rear-wheel drive with a 75 kWh battery, with a range of up to 622 km.
Tesla is prioritizing deliveries in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurugram. Customers in these areas will receive their vehicles directly at their homes via flat-bed trucks.
Furthermore, Tesla has adjusted its website to allow vehicle registration in all Indian states and union territories, extending its reach beyond its initial target cities.
The full self-driving (FSD) feature is currently listed as an optional add-on on the website for Rs 6 lakh, though its release in India will be at a later date.
The Model Y launch also signifies the official launch of Tesla’s India website. This underscores Tesla’s commitment to grow its presence in India despite challenges in EV policy and infrastructure.
