Underlining that welfare of people of the state is the top-priority of the state government, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel sought viability report of the rail corridor projects undertaken during the tenure of erstwhile Raman Singh- led BJP government.
CM was chairing a review meeting of railway projects and facilities for passengers in Chhattisgarh held at his official residence on Monday.
In the meeting he instructed the concerned officials to submit a detailed report after surveying the likely environment impact of rail projects and coal blocks and also the effects of the same on public life. He also enquired about employment that would be generated under these projects.
In the meeting, officials gave presentation on various railway projects proposed in Chhattisgarh. Officials informed during the presentation that these railway projects have been initiated mainly for transportation of coal, and the state would receive coal royalty for the same.
From the coal blocks that are being developed in the state, coal would be supplied to states namely Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
The CM expressed his distress in the meeting that when the industries in Chhattisgarh are not receiving sufficient supply of coal and because of which many industries had to shut down how could the coal from state would be supplied to other states.
Chief Minister said that the coal mines are situated in dense forest and development of the coal blocks would affect valuable forest resources because of felling of trees. Coal mines and railway projects would also lead to displacement of people.
The royalty that is expected from the project would not be able to compensate for the major damage caused, he opined. He gave instructions to the officials to survey the damage that could be caused because of development of coal blocks and railway projects and also the adverse effects of the same on common people. Compare them to the employment opportunities and advantages of the same for Chhattisgarh, he said.
Chief Minister has directed the officials to submit the report within 15 days and convene a meeting after the same. In the meeting, presentations were given on east railway corridor, east-west railway corridor, Dallirajhara-Raoghat railway project, Dongargarh-Khairagarh-Kawardha-Mungeli-Takhatpur-Ratanpur-Beltara-Katghora railway line and Kharsiya-Naya Raipur-Durg railway.
