As anticipation builds for the Union Budget 2026-27, set for unveiling in under two weeks, industry leaders are pitching innovative strategies to fuel employment and economic expansion. Karnataka Digital Economy Mission CEO Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, in an IANS interview, advocated for MSME technology adoption as a budget cornerstone, targeting Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
These sectors drive $1.5 trillion in economic value at 10 percent growth; tech could elevate it to 18 percent, necessitating a fresh policy that the budget should announce.
Gupta envisioned Digital Economy Zones sparking nearly 100 growth powerhouses in smaller cities, redistributing prosperity.
He also flagged the one lakh startups in these regions, pushing for a scheme to reach five lakh and create jobs en masse.
The February 1, 11 AM presentation by the Finance Minister will be a historic Sunday event, the first since 2000, akin to previous weekend budgets in 2025 and 2015.
