Breaking new ground, Assam has exported its inaugural batch of GI-certified Karbi Anglong ginger to London, a triumph Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described as farmers’ global debut. The 21.2 metric ton premium cargo, sourced from Karbi Anglong fields, was ceremonially sent off from Guwahati.
Sarma took to X to laud this as a defining achievement, reflecting the international acclaim for Assam’s elite agri-produce and the administration’s commitment to farmer prosperity via enhanced quality, value chains, and market bridges.
This first-to-UK shipment from Agriculture Bhawan underscores a strategic push to elevate farm incomes through world-class exports. It’s a clear indicator of Assam’s expanding influence in global food trade.
Agriculture Minister Atul Bora remarked that such initiatives position local producers prominently worldwide, fostering ecosystems for better returns, recognition, and borderless market entry—thus elevating the Assam brand.
Powered by APEDA and NextOn Foods Pvt Ltd collaboration, the event drew Agriculture Commissioner Aruna Rajooriya, Director Dr. P. Uday Praveen, Vinita Sudhanshu, and departmental leaders.
This milestone not only celebrates Karbi Anglong’s ginger heritage but also sets a blueprint for future exports, ensuring sustainable growth, fair remuneration, and a shining spotlight on Assam’s agricultural excellence.
