A significant relief package for Maharashtra’s toor cultivators: the Centre has authorized the procurement of 3.37 lakh MT under PSS, pegged at Rs 2,696 crore MSP value. This comes from the Agriculture Ministry amid reports of depressed market prices.
In a pivotal New Delhi huddle, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stamped his approval, coordinating with state leaders including Marketing Minister Jaykumar Rawal. Directives flowed to NAFED, NCCF, and state machinery for robust execution.
Chouhan candidly addressed the hefty Centre’s expenditure but framed it as essential under PM Modi’s farmer-first agenda. ‘Farmer welfare trumps all costs,’ he asserted, pushing for intermediary-free direct buys.
Modern tech mandates included digitized farmer enrollments and real-time tracking for ironclad transparency. Expansion of buying points was advised to facilitate easy access, ensuring no farmer is left behind.
Notable figures at the table: Rawal, Devesh Chaturvedi, and elite officials. This procurement drive promises economic upliftment, price equilibrium, and fortified farmer confidence in government support mechanisms.
