  • Israel-Hamas War: Israel Claims Death Of Hezbollah Commander As Beirut Toll Rises | world news

JERUSALEM: Israel claimed the death of a senior Hezbollah military official after a rare Israeli airstrike on Beirut as the death toll rose Saturday to at least 31 people, with dozens more wounded, shortly after Hezbollah pounded northern Israel with 140 rockets. The strikes are part of a new cycle of escalation between the enemies that has raised fears of a full-out war erupting in the Middle East, particularly after two separate attacks in Lebanon in which communication devices exploded simultaneously around the country, reportedly killing 37 people. and injuring more than 3,400 others.

Israel and Hezbollah have traded fire regularly since Hamas’ October 7 assault on southern Israel ignited the Israeli military’s devastating offensive in Gaza. Gaza’s Health Ministry says more than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in the territory during the nearly 1-year-old Israel-Hamas war. The ministry does not differentiate between fighters and civilians in its count but says a little over half of those killed were women and children. Israel says it has killed over 17,000 militants, without providing evidence.

White House national security adviser calls reported death of Hezbollah commander a good outcome Wilmington – White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan called the reported death of Ibrahim Akil “a good outcome” and said that he planned to speak with Israeli officials later Saturday about the operation. .

Akil, the main target of the Friday strike, had been wanted by the US for years for his alleged role in the 1983 bombing of the US Embassy in Beirut and in taking American and German hostages in Lebanon in the 1980s.

He was under US sanctions and in 2023, the US State Department announced a reward of up to USD 7 million for information leading to his “identification, location, arrest, and/or conviction”. “That individual has American blood on his hands and has a rewards for justice price on his head,” Sullivan told reporters on the sidelines of the Quad summit that US President Joe Biden is hosting in Wilmington, Delaware.

“He is somebody who the United States promised long ago we would do everything we could to see brought to justice.” Sullivan added the moment was also meaningful for the American victims. “You know 1983 seems like a long time ago,” Sullivan said. “But for a lot of families and a lot of people, they’re still living with it every day.”

Firass Abiad told reporters that 68 people were also wounded in Friday’s airstrike, of whom 15 remain in hospital, in the deadliest Israeli strike on Beirut since the Israel-Hezbollah war in the summer of 2006. Among the dead was Ibrahim Akil, a Hezbollah commander. who was in charge of the group’s elite Radwan Forces, and about a dozen members of the militant group who were meeting in the basement of the building that was destroyed.

Israel launched the rare airstrike in the densely populated southern Beirut neighborhood on Friday afternoon during the rush hour when people were returning home from work and students were leaving schools. On Saturday morning, Hezbollah’s media office took journalists to the site of the airstrike where workers were still digging through the rubble.

Lebanese troops cordoned off the area around the building that was destroyed as members of the Lebanese Red Cross stood nearby to take any recovered bodies from under the rubble. Lebanon has blamed Israel for the attacks, which appeared to target Hezbollah militants but also saw many civilian casualties, including children. Hezbollah has fought many conflicts with Israel, including a war in 2006, and it has conducted near-daily strikes against Israel to support Hamas militants who attacked Israel on October 7.

When reporters asked Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon about speculation Israel was behind the two explosions, he said: “We are not commenting.

The district administration of Lahore on Friday allowed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold its power show in Lahore’s Kahna, today in line with the directives given by the high court, Geo News reported.

The deputy commissioner, in its no objection certificate (NOC), has set 43 conditions for PTI public gathering, including fixing a time limit for the rally from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The conditions mentioned by the deputy commissioner included that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur “should tender apology publicly for his vitriol during Islamabad Jalsa on September 8, whereas, all those under trial for hate speech in the previous public gathering shall not be allowed to participate/appear on stage.”

It added that no “anti-state/anti institution” slogans and statements should be made during the rally and asked Imran Khan-founded party that “no Afghan flag to be hoisted and no Afghan paid manpower to be brought to Jalsa,” as reported. by Geo News.

Another condition mentioned by deputy commissioner reads, “No proclaimed offender will participate/appear in Jalsa. If so facilitating their arrest will be responsibility of Administration of Jalsa, failing which Admin will be tried for abetment.”

In a video statement, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan called on the administration not to cause hurdles in the way of the rally.

He said the participants would be able to reach the rally venue on time if hurdles were created for them and hence the gathering will be concluded timely.

Gohar Ali Khan said, “PTI workers should participate in the rally peacefully,” while urging workers to reach the venue on time so that the entire process could be concluded on time, Geo News reported.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated in Adiala Jail, has termed the holding of the rally a “do or die” situation. He has expressed optimism about the success of PTI’s power show in Lahore.

Meanwhile, the party has prepared a container for Ali Amin Gandapur. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM will use the container for traveling to the rally venue in Lahore from Swabi, Geo News reported, citing sources closer to the party.

The sources further said Gandapur will also address PTI workers in the central convoy in Swabi before departing to Lahore.

Citing the installation of containers and heavy police deployments on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Punjab border, a KP CM’s spokesperson said that heavy machinery, including 50 cranes, shovels and other equipment, has been sent to the Peshawar Motorway, which would be used to remove barriers. placed on the way towards Lahore rally’s venue.

The district administration’s decision came after the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the PTI to submit a request to the city’s deputy commissioner (DC) for holding the rally in Lahore while ordering the latter to take a decision on it by 5 pm ( local time).

Justice Muhammad Tariq Nadeem and Justice Farooq Haider heard the plea filed by PTI leaders Aliya Hamza and Sheikh Imtiaz Mehmood.

“Lahore police compiled data of the wanted persons via Safe City cameras and formed special teams who would be identified and arrested through the use of artificial intelligence and other modern technology,” the report stated.

The PTI has been trying to hold rallies in Pakistan for months. However, authorities have repeatedly not allowed PTI to hold rallies, citing security issues and other reasons. PTI, however, managed to hold a public gathering in Islamabad on September 8.

Following PTI’s power show, a crackdown was launched against party leaders — some of who were even allegedly “picked” from within the parliament’s premises for allegedly breaching the no objection certificate (NOC) issued by the administration as well as the “Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Bill, 2024.” The law had taken effect just a day before the Imran Khan-founded party’s rally, Geo News reported.

  • US Says Iranian Hackers Sent Stolen Trump Campaign Information To Biden’s Campaign | world news

Iranian hackers shared unsolicited information they had stolen from former US President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign with people who were associated with US President Joe Biden’s campaign over the summer, CNN reported, citing federal law enforcement officials.

In a joint statement, the office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency announced that Iranian malicious cyber actors in late June and early July “sent unsolicited emails to individuals then associated with President Biden’s campaign that contained an excerpt taken from stolen, non-public material from former President Trump’s campaign as text in the emails,” according to a CNN report.

According to the statement, there is no indication that Biden’s staff ever responded. In the statement, the law enforcement said that the hackers’ efforts to send information to US media outlets has continued.

The statement said that the hack is one of the various efforts made by the Iranian government trying to “stoke discord and undermine confidence in our electoral process,” CNN reported. Previously, law enforcement officials have said that those efforts also comprised an unsuccessful attempt to hack the Biden-Harris campaign.

Iranian government-backed hackers stole Trump campaign documents and shared them with news organizations, CNN had reported. Beginning on July 22, Politico had reported that it had received emails that mentioned internal communication from a senior Trump campaign official and a research dossier the campaign had put together on Trump’s running mate and Ohio Senator, JD Vance.

Later, The New York Times and The Washington Post had also reported that they had received similar information, including a 271-page document on Vance dated February 23 and labeled “privileged & confidential,” that the outlets said was based on information available in public. , the report said.

The Iranian hackers did breach the email account of Trump’s long time ally Roger Stone to target campaign staff in June, according to CNN report. US officials believe the Iranian hackers work for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGS).

Investigators believe the suspected Iranian hackers breached Roger Stone’s account. The hackers then used Stone’s email account to try to break into the account of a senior Trump campaign official as part of their efforts to access campaign networks.

Elections in the US are set to be held on November 5. Donald Trump is the Republican presidential nominee, while US Vice President Kamala Harris is the Democratic nominee. Earlier in July, Biden withdrew from the presidential race and endorsed Harris as the Democratic candidate for presidential elections.
