Balrampur. On Thursday, after the death of a youth in custody at the police station located in Balrampur district headquarters of Chhattisgarh, a mob attacked the police station. There was heavy stone pelting and vandalism in the police station. The police dispersed the crowd forcefully by releasing tear gas. Protests by the people of Balrampur continued on the second day of the incident. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh State National Health Mission (NHM) Employees Union has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister with four-point demands and has asked for strict action to be taken against the culprits. The Sangh has also warned that if their demands are not met then the Sangh will be forced to fight a street battle to get justice.

Chhattisgarh State National Health Mission Employees Union said in a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister, “The case of death in police custody of Gurchand Mandal, working under the National Health Mission office in Balrampur district headquarters, has come to light. Would like to be aware that this case of death in police custody is extremely serious and raises doubts on the functioning of the police personnel concerned. It has come to light that the wife of the deceased employee was missing, instead of searching for her, the police, suspecting the deceased, kept calling him and his family members to the police station repeatedly and putting pressure on him. It has also been reported that he was severely beaten. This type of death is a gross violation of human rights for which strict action should be taken against the culprits.

Chhattisgarh State National Health Mission Employees Union has also placed a four-point demand from the Chief Minister and the Home Minister regarding this matter. The union says that if action is not taken on the demands, there will be anger among all the employees, for which the union will be forced to fight on the streets to get justice.

Four-point demand of Chhattisgarh State National Health Mission Association

1- The case should be investigated by a retired judge. 2- An amount of one crore should be given to the victim’s family as compensation. 3- One member of the family should be given compassionate appointment. 4- Arrangements for the education of the children should be made by the government. Let it be done.
