Breastfeeding Week organized at Sri Narayana Hospital: Doctors told how beneficial mother’s milk is for the child, along with developing the connection, it also keeps the child safe from many serious diseases

Raipur. Breast feeding week was celebrated on Tuesday, 6th August at Shri Narayana Hospital in the capital. The chief guest of this program was the hospital’s managing director, Dr. Megha Khemka. On this occasion, the hospital’s gynecologist, Dr. Sanjana Khemka Agarwal inaugurated the poster exhibition organized by the nursing students of Shri Narayana Nursing Institute.

Dr. Sanjana said that mother’s milk is called ‘liquid gold’, which cannot be bought from anywhere. The duration of exclusive breastfeeding is six months, but in Chhattisgarh, children up to two-three years are also fed. Mother’s milk gives antibodies to the child, which improves their immunity. The first milk, called colostrum, is considered the strongest and it develops the child’s immunity well.

Dr. Sanjana said that breastfeeding the baby minimizes the chances of postpartum hemorrhage, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and uterine cancer. The hospital’s pediatrician, Dr. Ankita Patel said that the mother should always take a balanced diet, which includes proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. No matter how ill the mother is, she should definitely breastfeed. Breastfeeding increases bonding with the baby and the notion that milk does not come is wrong. Let the baby suck, this will start the milk coming automatically. The mother should avoid drinking too much tea, coffee, alcohol or cigarettes as it can reduce the chances of milk.

Dr. Viniya Mayskar said that this year’s theme is ‘Closing the Gap, Breastfeeding for All’ and the target is to provide breast milk to 70% of newborns in the first hour by 2025. She said that it is important to make mothers and their families aware in the future so that this target can be achieved.

Nursing Superintendent Kiran Rani, Manjusha John, Shirin Salomon, Anita Namdev, Jyoti Tiwari and Pooja Tamboli from Narayana Nursing Institute were also present at the event. Nishant Dewangan from IT Department and Dr. Alok Srivastava from Administration were also present on the occasion.
