Lord Shri Ram is related to Dhamtari… After Putrayeshthi Yagya, King Dashrath had four sons, Shringi Rishi had performed the yagya.

Shringi Rishi was born on Mahendragiri mountain of Sihawa in Dhamtari district, even today Shringi Rishi’s ashram is there. Mahanadi also originates from here. It is said that Lord Ram also spent time on Mahendragiri mountain during his exile. Chhattisgarh government has included this area in Ramvangaman path. Today, when Shri Ram is being re-established in Ayodhya, the Shringi Rishi mountain of Dhamtari has again become relevant.

Gram Panchayat Sihawa is situated at the foot of Mahendragiri mountain and on the banks of Mahanadi in Dhamtari district, about 160 kilometers south of Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. As soon as you reach Sihawa, the temple on the high mountain and the flag waving on it can be seen from below. Here on the top of the mountain is the ashram of Shringi Rishi. It is also colloquially called Shringi Rishi Parvat.

Earlier it used to be deserted. But today there are arrangements for temples, pavilions, stairs, electricity and water. This has been done with the help of people’s donations and Panchayat. When we reached here after climbing about four hundred and fifty stairs, preparations for the Yagya were going on here too. People were busy in making pavilion, flag, kalash, rangoli, all the arrangements.

Rishi was installed on 21 January

It is considered to be a happy coincidence that in 2017, the local Vedacharyas and priests had installed Shringi Rishi on 21st January, and in the year 2024, Ramlala is being installed in Ayodhya on 22nd January. However, many ancient broken statues have also been preserved in this ashram, about which no one knows what they are. Which is part of the construction, but has been kept safe.

There is a statue of Shringi Rishi doing penance under the rock in the ashram. Devotees come here and worship. The management and maintenance of this ashram is done by the village priest and local Vedacharya, who gets full help from the common people.

Shringi Rishi Parvat becomes relevant again

Today Shringi Rishi mountain of Sihawa has become relevant again. It is being discussed everywhere. And people have started coming to see it also. Actually, Lord Shri Ram ji had a direct relation with Shringi Rishi. It has been mentioned in the Bal Kand of Ramcharit Manas. That when King Dashrath was worried about not getting a son as his successor. At such a time, Maharishi Vashishtha advised him to take refuge in Sage Shringi.

In that era, it is said that only Shringi Rishi had proved the Putrayeshthi Mantra through his penance. As per the advice of Maharishi Vashishtha, King Dasharatha came to Mahendra Giri mountain of Sihawa and went to the shelter of Shringi Rishi and requested him to perform Putrayeshthi Yagya. It is said that Sage Shringi went to Ayodhya with King Dasharatha, performed a yagya there, and fed the kheer obtained from it to the three queens of King Dasharatha, only after which Lord Rama, Bharat, Lakshman and Shatrughan were born.

The sage was born from the womb of a deer

According to religious texts, Sage Shringi was born from the womb of a deer. He had a horn on his forehead. And because of the horns, he was named Shringi Rishi. It is said that Shringi Rishi was the son of Maharishi Vibhandak and grandson of Rishi Kashyap. There is an incident in the stories that Vibhandak was a great ascetic, who lived on Mahendragiri mountain. Besides, he had a very attractive physique.

The angels of heaven were fascinated by him. Once when Rishi Vibhandak was doing penance, an Apsara took the form of a deer and went near him. And at the same time the semen of Rishi Vibhandak was ejaculated, and got mixed in the nearby water pond. The deer drank this water and became pregnant. Shringi Rishi was born from the womb of this deer. It is also said that Shringi Rishi was always born on Mahendragiri mountain and remained there only. Did penance here. He had never seen any woman.

Daughter Shanta given as best Dakshina

There is also a small temple of Mata Shanta on Shringi Rishi mountain of Sihawa. Mother Shanta was the eldest child of King Dasharatha. That is, she was the elder sister of Lord Ram, who was adopted by Mother Kaushalya’s sister. King Dasharatha, after the Putrayeshthi Yagya, had given Shringi Rishi as the best Dakshina to his daughter Shanta, and for this reason a temple of Mata Shanta has also been built near Shringi Rishi Ashram.

It is also believed that even today, childless couples get a child after worshiping and performing yagya in the ashram of Shringi Rishi. The origin of Mahanadi, the life-giving river of Chhattisgarh, is also believed to be from Shringi Rishi mountain. There is a small pond on the mountain, which never dries up. It is also said that during his exile, Lord Rama stayed around Mahendragiri mountain for a long time. Chhattisgarh government has included this area in Ram Van Gaman Path.
