Pradeep Gupta, Kawardha. A case of manipulation in the food items like rice, sugar and gram distributed to the people through ration cards has come to light. This matter was raised loudly by BJP MLA Dharamlal Kaushik in the assembly session. After this, there is panic among the officials of the food department. The department is now struggling to recover money from the shop operators. At the same time, the question is also being raised that the government is not taking any action against the responsible officials.
In Kabirdham district too, a large quantity of food grains has been misappropriated by the government ration shop operators, the amount of which is more than Rs 13 crore. The matter came to light when physical verification of ration shops in the district was done from December 2022 to May 2023, in which 498 shops were found short by three thousand seven hundred and twenty one metric tons of ration material rice, sugar and gram. Its price is approximately Rs 13 crore 26 lakh. To compensate for this, the Food Department has issued a notice to all shop operators.
No action is being taken against responsible officials
In the case of misappropriation, FIR has been filed against three shop operators and 8 shops have been suspended. Notices have been served to the remaining shopkeepers, but the government has not taken concrete action against even a single responsible food officer in this game of misappropriation of food grains, which is a big question. District Food Officer Akanksha Nayak said that two thousand nine hundred twenty six metric tons of food items have been recovered from 342 shop operators. Action is being taken to recover five hundred and forty metric tons of food items from 38 shopkeepers through the Tehsildar.
