Bilaspur. A complex lung surgery of a 5-year-old child was successfully completed today at Shri Narayana Hospital. 5-year-old Raunak was complaining of high fever, cough and difficulty in breathing for the last 15 days. Despite treatment in 2-3 hospitals, he did not get relief. Finally, Chest Physician Dr. Amol Dhude and Pediatrician Dr. Ankita Patel examined the child at Narayana Hospital located in Devendra Nagar, Raipur. The doctors’ examination revealed that the child is suffering from Empyma with Entrapped Lung. After which he was treated by performing a complex surgery using telescope technique.
Serious conditions found during investigation
During examination, it was found that a lot of pus had accumulated in his left lung, due to which the child’s left lung was not able to function, hence, first of all, an attempt was made to remove the pus by inserting a tube on the left side of his chest with the help of a suction machine, but due to the pus remaining accumulated in the lungs for a long time, a thick layer of pus had formed there, due to which the lung would not expand while breathing, in medical terms this disease is called Empyma with Entrapped Lung, the surgery of which is generally done by making a big incision in the chest.
Pediatric surgeon of Shri Narayana Hospital Dr. Tanmay Motiwala and cardio thoracic and vascular surgeon Dr. Piyush Kesharwani performed this operation using a telescope through a small incision of 5 mm. After the infected layer of pus was removed using this technique, the lung started to inflate again. Managing Director of the hospital Dr. Sunil Khemka said, “By performing surgery on children through telescope, a small incision is made and they have less pain after the operation and the hospital stay is also less. Generally, such operations are not performed on such small children in Raipur, but the facility to perform the operation with this new technique is now available in Shri Narayana Hospital.”
With this technique, the patient recovered quickly and was discharged from the hospital in a completely healthy state on the fifth day. The child’s mother expressed her gratitude by thanking the team of doctors.
