Series of workshops on ‘Ecological Restoration Policy’ inaugurated in the capital, senior officials and experts shared their views

Raipur. The series of state level consultation workshops as part of the preparation of Ecorestoration policy in Chhattisgarh was inaugurated with great pomp on 31 July 2024 at the office of the Forest and Climate Change Department in Nava Raipur. Prominent officials and experts of the field participated in this important program and shared their views on the conservation of the ecosystem.

The initiative was inaugurated by former PCCF Dr. R. K. Singh, PCCF & Chief of Forest Force V. Srinivasa Rao, and PCCF & Director, SFRTI, Raipur, B. Anand Babu at the inaugural ceremony. Prominent experts like Noyal Thomas, former PCCF, Kerala, Pramod G. Krishnan, IFS, APCCF, Kerala, and Jagadish Rao, CEO, Living Landscapes, Hyderabad, Telangana also attended the ceremony.

In his opening remarks, Dr. R.K. Singh reviewed the status of ecological restoration policies globally and emphasized the need for legal and public acceptance. He said that the policies should not only be limited to the legal framework but should also be adopted by all sections of society.

B. Anand Babu, on the other hand, highlighted the importance of conserving local species and the biodiversity of the state. His talk highlighted the importance of the local ecosystem, which is often overlooked.

Arun Kumar Pandey, Additional PCCF and Nodal Officer, Chhattisgarh State Climate Change Centre, in his presentation discussed the present and past status of the forests of the state. He explained the importance of restoration of forest, wetland and overall ecosystem and emphasized the need for a concerted approach for ecological restoration.

This workshop series aims to promote a deeper understanding of ecological repair and sustainable practices. These workshops provide participants with practical skills and knowledge to restore degraded ecosystems, promote biodiversity, and build resilience against climate change. Additionally, these workshops encourage community engagement and collaboration, empowering individuals and groups to actively participate in environmental conservation.
