In the natural forest of compartment number 61 of Beler-Mohndi of Mahasamund forest range, the Manjhi tribal farmer soldiers of the district were living in huts by cutting about 200 trees. On receiving information about this, the officers and employees of the forest department picked up 17 tribal farmer soldiers and brought them to the forest training school Mahasamund. The Divisional Forest Officer counselled them citing the rules, after which they were released.

Manjhi tribal farmer soldier Parasram Dhruv said that we are very poor and landless tribals. We support our family by working as laborers. We do not have any work. We had applied to the administration and forest department in the year 2023 and demanded a lease, so that we can earn our livelihood by farming. Due to the administration not paying attention to the demands, about 200 tribal families of 35 villages (Mogra, Muski, Joba, Jhalap, Ghoghi Bahra, Sorid, Mohkam, Salhebhatha etc.) are making huts by cutting the poles in room number 61.

In this entire case, the Divisional Forest Officer Pankaj Rajput said that the tribal farmers and soldiers were trying to build a hut by cutting some trees in compartment number 61 against the rules. On getting information about this, 17 tribals were picked up and brought, including three women. On persuasion, these people agreed, after which they are being released back. But some trees have been cut, on which action will be taken as per the rules. Along with this, after talking to the collector, these tribals will be given the benefit of government schemes as per their eligibility.
