Kolkata: The West Bengal State Election Fee on Saturday postponed polls to 4 municipal firms by three weeks to February 12 within the wake of rising COVID-19 circumstances.
In line with a notification issued by the SEC, elections to Siliguri, Chandannagar, Bidhannagar and Asansol municipal firms will now be held on February 12 as an alternative of January 22.
Polling shall be held from 7 AM to five PM, it stated.
Earlier within the day, the state authorities despatched a letter to the SEC, giving its consent to reschedule the election dates, owing to the current pandemic scenario, an SEC official stated.
Requested when the counting is more likely to be held, he stated that though nothing has been mounted but, the SEC may schedule it on February 15.
“No date for counting of votes has been mounted but. However it could be held on February 15. We are going to come out with a notification on this quickly,” he stated.

The SEC official stated that the choice to postpone the polling dates was taken to point out respect to the Calcutta Excessive Courtroom.
