The trailer of Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Bengal Files,’ which depicts the 1946 communal violence in Bengal, has sparked reactions and debates. Saswata Chatterjee, a Bengali actor cast in a prominent role, responded to the controversy. Chatterjee stated, ‘I am just an actor. I took the role because I liked the character.’ He also mentioned that he is not an historian and does not discuss history. He suggested those who disagree with the trailer’s portrayal of history to approach the courts. Chatterjee said he was only aware of his character and the role. The film’s release is set for September 5, 2025, with a runtime of 3 hours and 20 minutes. It features a star cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar. A release in Bengal is currently uncertain.
