The countdown is on for ‘Dal Dal’, Bhumi Pednekar’s bold new chapter in OTT storytelling. As DCP Rita Ferreira, she delivers a masterclass in understated power, a character that kept her immersed for half a year.
Bhumi didn’t hold back in sharing the rigors. Rita’s calm facade over roiling emotions was a puzzle. ‘First read-through, and I knew: this demands time,’ she confessed. ‘Five months flew by perfecting her essence—internal chaos, external steel.’
Director Amrit Raj Gupta and producer Suresh Triveni were instrumental, fueling debates that sharpened her vision. ‘Picture this: Rita faces a body,’ Bhumi detailed. ‘Vomit? Panic? No way, per Suresh. We drilled down—what’s authentic for her? Tiny details, endless talks.’
Crafting within emotional constraints was both art and ordeal. ‘Limited palette meant hyper-focused creativity,’ she said. ‘Mom scenes? Each one a fresh emotional tightrope. The control acting fatigued me deeply, yet finishing felt triumphant.’
Rooted in Vish Dhamija’s bestseller ‘Bhendi Bazaar’, the series boasts direction by Amrit Raj Gupta and production from Vikram Malhotra and Suresh Triveni of Abundantia. Samara Tijori and Aditya Rawal round out the cast. ‘Dal Dal’ premieres January 30 on Prime Video, streaming to 240 countries.
