The Mumbai magistrate court has sent a notice to Rhea Chakraborty following the CBI’s closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The CBI, having submitted its report in March 2025, found no criminal evidence against those previously accused. The notice is a procedural measure designed to allow the complainant to object to the closure of the case by the investigating agency.
Magistrate R. D. Chavan, during the hearing, ordered the issuance of a notice to “the original informant / victim / aggrieved person” and postponed the proceedings until the notice reached Rhea. She has been asked to respond by August 12. This directive adheres to due process, ensuring the complainant has the opportunity to contest the decision to close the investigation.
In a previous move, Rhea Chakraborty had filed a complaint against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters, Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, and Dr. Tarun Nathu Ram, alleging they improperly arranged for prescription medication for Sushant.
Rhea maintained that Sushant suffered from bipolar disorder but at times ceased taking his medication. She also contended that Sushant’s sister obtained medicines through text messages using fraudulent prescriptions. Her FIR referenced sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Sushant Singh Rajput was discovered deceased in his Mumbai home on June 14, 2020. The incident triggered widespread media coverage and multiple investigations. Sushant’s father also filed an FIR in Patna, accusing Rhea and her family of abetting suicide and financial exploitation, accusations Rhea has consistently refuted.
The CBI took over from the Mumbai and Bihar police and has concluded that there is no evidence of any wrongdoing. The court will consider the matter further after Chakraborty submits her response.
