Sarzameen: An Ambitious but Imperfect Exploration of Family and Radicalization

Kayoze Irani’s ‘Sarzameen’ strives to be a gripping thriller, drawing inspiration from the cinematic legacy of ‘Shakti’. The film is not as bad as some reviews suggest. The film incorporates unexpected plot twists, however, they sometimes feel forced. The film features Kajol as the mother of a Kashmiri youth who has been radicalized, and Prithviraj as the father. The storyline focuses on the dynamics between the family members, particularly the challenging relationship between the father and son. The film’s exploration of radicalization and family relationships, with performances by Prithviraj and Ibrahim Ali Khan, provides some compelling moments. Despite its ambitions, the film’s limited scope and lack of visual richness prevent it from fully realizing its potential.
