Two eagerly awaited sequels, ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ and ‘Dhadak 2’, premiered on August 1st. ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, headlined by Ajay Devgn, offers a comedic narrative, while ‘Dhadak 2’ presents a fresh take on romance featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Both films generated significant pre-release interest, but audience and critical receptions have diverged. These films are competing for audiences alongside successful films like ‘Saiyaara’ and ‘Mahavtar Narasimha’.
‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ started strong, collecting Rs 7.25 crore on its opening day. The film displayed consistent growth over the weekend, with Rs 8.25 crore on Day 2 (a 13.79% rise) and Rs 9.25 crore on Day 3 (a 12.12% increase). However, the momentum waned significantly on Day 4, with collections falling to Rs 2.35 crore, marking a 74.59% drop. On Day 5, a minor recovery brought in Rs 2.50 crore (as per early estimates). This brings the total five-day collection of ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ to Rs 29.60 crore.
With its current total standing at Rs 29.60 crore, ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ is approaching the Rs 30 crore milestone. The reaction to Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ has not been overly positive, with mixed to negative reviews. Earlier this year, ‘Raid 2’ had a much stronger start, earning Rs 19.25 crore on its first day. Positive reviews and word of mouth pushed the film past Rs 100 crore in a short timeframe.
‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ also features Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Sanjay Mishra in lead roles. It features the late actor Mukul Dev, who died on May 23, 2025, shortly before the film’s release. The original ‘Son Of Sardaar’ was released in 2012, starring Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi Chawla, and Sanjay Dutt.
‘Dhadak 2’ began with a modest Rs 3.5 crore on its opening day. The film showed a slight upward trend over the weekend, earning Rs 3.75 crore on Day 2 and Rs 4.15 crore on Day 3, with a first weekend total of Rs 11.4 crore. However, the momentum dropped sharply on Day 4, with collections falling to Rs 1.35 crore, a significant decline of over 67%. On Day 5, the film is estimated to have earned around Rs 1.60 crore, taking the total collection to roughly Rs 14.35 crore.
While the opening weekend showed some promise, the weekday drop suggests ‘Dhadak 2’ might struggle to maintain its box office pace. The romantic drama faces competition from ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, ‘Saiyaara’ and the animated film ‘Mahavtar Narasimha’.
‘Dhadak 2’, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, delves into caste and social discrimination. It tells a love story between two law students. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film is a spiritual successor to the 2018 romantic drama ‘Dhadak’, which launched Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. The film also features Vipin Sharma, Manjiri Pupala, Deeksha Joshi, Priyank Tiwari, Amit Jaat, Mayank Khanna, and Ashwant Lodhi.
